Up until now, information about Kathryn Bigelow's movie about the hunt for Osama bin Laden was almost as secretive as the hunt for the terrorist itself but the Oscar-winning director (The Hurt Locker) finally opened up about her new movie, Zero Dark Thirty, with EW.com
Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal talked to EW about the movie but remained mum when it came to the details. Bigelow did explain that cryptic title.
"It’s a military term for 30 minutes after midnight, and it refers also to the darkness and secrecy that cloaked the entire decade long mission.
Bigelow was working on a project about the hunt for Osama when in May 2011 an elite group of SEALS, SEAL Team Six, captured and killed the most wanted man in the world.
The minute we heard the news that Osama bin Laden had been killed, what we had been working on became history. As interesting a story as that would have been to tell, the news re-directed our entire efforts. It changed the movie idea forever. . . .
This is an amazing story about the triumph of will, dedication, and duty. [It’s] about the real life heroes in the intelligence community who worked behind the scenes day and night on what was perhaps the toughest assignment of their lives. As such, it’s a story that needs to be told respectfully.”
Well little else in known about Zero Dark Thirty, we do know that it stars Joel Edgerton (Warrior), and his brother Nash, as members of SEAL Team Six, and Kyle Chandler (Super 8) and Mark Strong as CIA agents. Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Harold Perrineau, Edgar Ramirez, Jennifer Ehle, and Mark Duplass also co-star.
