Iron Man 3 Halts Production as Robert Downey Jr. Hurts Ankle

As more and more stars decide to perform their own stunts, it's no surprise that on-set accidents are becoming more frequent, and the latest victim is the highly anticipated sequel Iron Man 3. The production has been temporarily halted due to ankle injury star Robert Downey Jr., and yes, the 47-year-old actor was performing a stunt when he was injured.
Marvel claims that the production is only going to be "slightly delayed" while Downey heals, so its doubtful that the injury will be a serious detriment to the production. Of course, Downey isn't the only actor to hurt himself performing a stunt. Sylvester Stallone infamously injured his neck during the shooting of The Expendables while Hugh Jackman suffered an eye injury performing a stunt during an appearance on Oprah two years ago. Recently, Downey's Avengers co-star Jeremy Renner admitted that his biggest challenge working on The Bourne Legacy was "not getting hurt" while performing the movie's many stunts. Looks like he should have offered a few pointers to Downey.
Iron Man 3 is loosely based on comic book writer Warren Ellis' Extremis storyline from the Iron Man comic books, which centers on a nanotechnology serum created by the military in an attempt to recreate the Super-Soldier serum. A recently released concept art poster revealed that, like in the comic book, Tony Stark will likely undergo the Extremis process in the movie as well.
The script was adapted by director Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) with screenwriter Drew Pearce and will see the return of Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Don Cheadle as James "Rhodey" Rhodes/War Machine, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan and Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts. Newcomer actors include Rebecca Hall as Dr. Maya Hansen, Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian, the scientist that created the Extremis nanotech virus, and Ben Kingsley, who is confirmed to play Iron Man nemesis Mandarin. Ashley Hamilton and James Badge Dale will co-star as cyborgs Firepower and Coldblood, respectively.
