Today's MovieMovie: A Time To Kill

It's easy to call Matthew McConaughey a movie star now, but back in 1996, the most notable role for the actor was in the 1993 cult comedy Dazed and Confused and, a supporting role as Drew Barrymore's love interest in 1995's Boys on the Side. It was the 1996 adaptation of A Time to Kill that first tested McConaughey's ability to lead a movie, even if he was getting plenty of help from Sandra Bullock and Samuel L. Jackson, both of whom have a more prominent position on the poster.
Based on the novel by John Grisham, A Time to Kill followed McConaughey as lawyer Jake Brigance, who takes on a case that confronts the deeply-rooted racism of the Mississippi Delta area. Considered a success on all fronts, A Time To Kill made it to our list of the Top 10 Samuel L. Jackson movies as well as the Top 10 Sandra Bullock movies. We think we can quietly consider it one of McConaughey's 10 best as well, though he's also pretty great as guy #2 in 1993's My Boyfriend's Back.
