Character Cage Match: Judge Dredd vs. Judge Dredd
Posted 09.21.12 by BrentJS
It's the scowl-off to end all scowl-offs! The battle to determine which Judge Dredd deserves the right to declare, "I am the law!" Will it be the original square-jawed dispenser of justice from the 1995 Judge Dredd movie, Sylvester Stallone, or the upstart Kiwi actor Karl Urban, who debuts today as the toughest Judge in a crime-ridden future megalopolis in the appellation-less Dredd 3D? Hit the link below for our analysis of these two Character Cage Match combatants hailing from Mega-City One and then vote for the the best Judge Dredd.
Rules? This is Judge Dredd we're talking about, the baddest law dog in Mega-City One, empowered to act as judge, jury and executioner. There are no rules.
Tale of the Tape
<< Joseph Dredd (Sylvester Stallone)
Height: 5' 10" (1.77 m)
Joseph Dredd (Karl Urban) >>
Height: 6' 1" (1.85 m)
Dredd's (Stallone) Strengths: Dominates any conversation about the law. Can wear an armored codpiece without chafing. Blindingly bright gold armor accents.
Dredd's (Stallone) Weaknesses: Can't keep his helmet on (the comic book Judge Dredd has never been depicted without his helmet in the more than 30 years the character has been in publication). Rob Schneider (see below).
Dredd's (Urban) Strengths: Keeps his helmet on! Armor that will actually protect his body. Can always fall back on his career as a doctor aboard the Enterprise.
Dredd's (Urban) Weaknesses: Tender Stomach. Urban: "I say this hypothetically. If I went to a movie called Judge Dredd and the lead actor at one point took of his helmet so we could see his full face I would just puke in my popcorn because that's not Dredd."
Slouching in Dredd's (Stallone) corner is Herman 'Fergee' Ferguson (Rob Schneider), convicted hacker and infuriatingly incongrous comic relief. Only a precocious Shih Tzu named "Law Dog" would make for a more atrocious cornerman.
Dredd (Urban)'s rookie partner Judge Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby) is in his corner. Not only is she a beautiful and driven arbiter of justice, but a psychic, to boot. That's a pretty handy partner to have in your corner.
