Today's Hot Trailer: Sopranos Creator David Chase's Not Fade Away Starring James Gandolfini

A drama about how hard it is to achieve your dreams. Especially if you're from New Jersey.
"Starting a band like the Stones," goes the opening line to the first trailer for Sopranos creator David Chase's rock and roll drama Not Fade Away, which is the first indication that the movie probably won't follow in the show's footsteps. Still, as fans of the show might well remember, Chase enjoyed filling his mob drama with an eclectic mix of classic rock, including the Rolling Stones, so perhaps making a movie about three friends starting a band in 1960s suburban New Jersey isn't much of a surprise. Also not a surprise is the inclusion of Sopranos lead James Gandolfini, who plays the father of Douglas (John Magaro) and isn't a fan of he direction his son's life is taking.
All the trailer hits
Not Fade Away recently debuted at the New york Film Festival, which is likely why the trailer made its way online. THR called the movie "a richly contextualized snapshot of changing social dynamics, examining the conflict between traditional middle-class values of security and stability and the restless hunger for creative fulfillment," while The Village Voice said the movie "treats its characters with just the right balance of gravity and sense of humor, respecting their earnest sincerity and yet pricking them for their prejudices and pretensions." With all that said, we won't find out for sure until December 21st.
Written and directed by Chase, Not Fade Away co-stars Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows), Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire) and newcomer Will Brill.
