Who Should Wield the Magic Lasso of Truth?
Though we are inarguably living in the golden age of comic book movie adaptations, with casts populated by Academy Award-winning actors and box office numbers that are through the roof, there is a noticeable absence of superheroines on the big screen. Marvel Studios has cranked out six superhero movies in the past four years, yet only included one of its multitude of female heroes — the Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson — and Warner Bros. (WB), the parent company of Marvel Comics rival DC Comics, has yet to suit up a single female hero even though the studio owns the most recognizable female superhero of them all — Wonder Woman.
We haven't heard a thing about Spider-Woman or She-Hulk movies, but at least Wonder Woman is on the radar. Before Joss Whedon became Marvel's wunderkind, he pitched a live-action Wonder Woman movie to WB that drew inspiration from Angelina Jolie's work as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. (Bet you're kicking yourselves for passing on Whedon now, aren't ya, WB?) And, Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) seems convinced that WB will give him a shot at making a Wonder Woman movie if his Logan's Run remake is successful. But, the best likelihood of Wonder Woman making it to the big screen is as part of WB's planned super-team movie, Justice League, where she'll fight alongside the likes of Superman, Batman and Green Lantern. Which actresses do you think have what it takes to embody the immortal warrior Amazon on a mission of peace in the world of men?
