A True Story of True American Grit
The incredible true story of the roughly 554 fighting men of the United States 77th Division who were lost in the Argonne Forest and held off overwhelming German forces in October 1918 was so inspirational that it inspired one of the first movies about WWI, the 1919 movie The Lost Battalion. Tonight's MovieMovie is Highlander director Russell MulCahy's 2001 remake of the movie which, while it can't boast a cast that includes several of the actual soldiers from the 77th like the first movie, is a historically accurate depiction of the event that includes intense action, a solid cast and Emmy-nominated sound, sound editing and picture editing. Rick Schroder stars as Maj. Charles W. Whittlesey, the real-life Medal of Honor recipient who held the line against the German army. Michael Brandon (The Red Badge of Courage) and Jamie Harris (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) also star.
