Chris Colfer Returns to High School in New Trailer for Struck By Lightning

A story about the trials and tribulations of high school. But without all the singing.
A new trailer has arrived online for Struck By Lightning, otherwise known as "the movie Glee's Chris Colfer wrote and stars in." Clearly, Colfer is trying to forge his own path from TV to movies, and his big screen debut could find success due to an appealing cast (Bridesmaids' Rebel Wilson, Modern Family's Sarah Hyland and Mad Men's Christina Hendricks to name a few) and its familiarity to Colfer's hit TV show.
For his big screen debut (Glee the 3D Concert Movie notwithstanding), Colfer returns to high school to play overachiever Carson, who is desperate to get into Northwestern and ends up blackmailing his fellow students to help him write a literary magazine in order to improve his chances. If it sounds similar to Glee, it may be because Colfer wrote it while working on the show. "I honestly wrote this script on set on Glee, in between scenes, in between lighting setups on set," Colfer admitted to IndieWire in April. "Which doesn’t seem like a lot of time, but we’re there so much it actually was quite a bit of time to sit down and write. I just wrote it on set."

Colfer also admitted that it was his experience on Glee that inspired him to work on the movie.
It was Glee, it really was. It was meeting kids that loved Glee and hearing their stories about how they had all these aspirations but no drive and no support. A lot of them didn’t have any support in their life to set them in the right direction. And I really wanted to show the story of a kid who did not have any support. The only support system [Carson] had was his grandmother who doesn’t even remember him. But he’s still driven because all he had was drive. I was so sad to hear these stories meeting these kids with all these aspirations, but no belief in themselves. And I thought that was really an important story to tell.
See for yourself how "important" the story is by watching the latest trailer for Struck By Lightning below, introduced by Colfer himself.
Struck By Lightning was directed by Brian Dannelly (Saved!) and co-stars Allison Janney (The Help) and Dermot Mulroney (The Grey).
