"It's a good sign when you feel a little bad."
Bundle up and brace for the cold climes of rural Michigan in winter to tag along with a brother-and-sister team of casino crooks whose luck has just run out.
The Flick: Deadfall (formerly Kin and Blackbird)
The Skinny: Award-winning Austrian filmmaker Stefan Ruzowitzy (The Counterfeiters) trades Germany for Michigan in this neo-noir thriller conceived by neophyte screenwriter Zach Dean while a passenger aboard a "seemingly doomed flight" from Burbank to New York. Deadfall debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival to mixed reviews, though it is rating much higher among moviegoers than critics.
The Players: Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde star as Addison and Liza, siblings who successfully rob a tribal casino only to suffer a car accident that leaves their get-away driver and a state trooper dead. Forced to split up and head for the Canadian border during a near whiteout blizzard, the pair reunite at the home of a retired sheriff (Kris Kristofferson), his wife (Sissy Spacek), and their son (Charlie Hunnam), an ex-boxer who takes a liking to Liza after picking her up along the side of the road.
