Today's Hot Trailer: The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Fights Off Demons

Move over Stephenie Meyer, another YA book-to-movie franchise is (possibly) ready to take Twilight's place.
With The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 opening last weekend (and owning it too), there has been a scramble for other Young Adult adaptations or other undead-romantic movies to ride the wave of Twilight mania for similar potential success. With The Hunger Games already a lock to absorb some of the Twilight fandom, the first trailer for zombie rom-com Warm Bodies arrived last week, and, over the weekend, the first trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones has debuted as well.
Based on Cassandra Clare's prolific young adult fantasy series, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones follows Lily Collins as teenager Clary Fray, who learns she is a descendent of clandestine order of half-angel warriors called Shadowhunters who protect the world from demons. Clary joins forces with fellow Shadowhunters Jace Weyland (Jamie Campbell Bower) and siblings Alec (Kevin Zegers) and Isabelle Lightwood (Jemima West) on a quest to rescue her mother (Lena Headey) from the evil Shadowhunter Valentine (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers). Not to worry, the first trailer for the movie isn't too worried about revealing the movie's plot, instead focusing on the movie's action, while dropping the word "demon" a couple times.

If The Mortal Instruments trailer cures what ails in our post-Twilight world, the wait is on for the movie's August 23, 2013, release date. Still, as the closing seconds revealed, this leaves plenty of time to catch up on Clare's many Mortal Instruments novels, which are already up to five volumes, not counting the prequel series The Infernal Devices, which is already has two volumes in print. Get reading (or just wait for the movie and its inevitable sequels)!
