More Tatum, more Willis, more Johnson — no problems?
After suffering a nine month delay back in May, it looks like the promotional campaign for G.I. Joe: Retaliation is in full swing again. The first new footage for the sequel arrived last month in a trailer that showed what terrorist organization Cobra is planning to do next after trying to destroy Europe with nanotechnology in 2009's live-action adaptation G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. So what's next? According to the latest trailer, destroying Europe with a satellite instead!

One of the reported reasons behind the delay was to give director Jon M. Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, Step Up 3D) a chance to add more of Channing Tatum to the movie. From the first trailer it didn't look like Tatum had much of a role. In fact, the first trailer offered something of a spoiler for Tatum's character of Duke, showing Tatum getting chummy with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at a G.I. Joe base, but, after a Cobra ambush, Johnson says "we're the only ones left" to his fellow survivors with Tatum no where to be seen. Not to ruin it for anybody, but, Paramount kinda did that already.
But wait, nothing's ruined after all. After Tatum's extremely successful year at the box office (The Vow, 21 Jump Street and Magic Mike), the studio clearly wants keep Tatum around for more G.I. Joe in the future as evidenced in a new poster that prominently adds Tatum where previously he wasn't even a part of it. As seen in the newest trailer, the studio added more footage of the Johnson-Tatum duo (though we're not sure if that is old or new footage that's been added), and it's clear Duke's fate is far from sealed.
Additionally, the trailer added more footage of Bruce Willis as General Joe Colton, and while we're thankful to see it, we're hoping there's more of Willis in the final version. Is asking Chu to shoot more of Willis too lofty of a demand?
G.I. Joe: Retaliation was written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland) and co-stars Ray Park as Snake Eyes, D.J. Cotrona as Flint, Adrianne Palicki as Lady Jaye and Lee Byung-Hun as Storm Shadow.
