"No, you’re just going to have to turn this opportunity yes. …Do the job."
Journey to Spain by way of London to experience an electric, sometimes surreal, heist movie featuring one of the most brilliantly-acted psychotic gangsters in cinema history.
The Flick: Sexy Beast
The Skinny: Commercial and music video director Jonathan Glazer's "utterly distinctive" first feature electrified the U.K. when it debuted in 2001, winning Best Director and Best Screenplay from the British Independent Film Awards and Special Recognition from the National Board of Review. Sir Ben Kingsley was nominated for his third Oscar for his supporting role as Don Logan, an intense, psychotic, unnerving recruiter for London mobsters.
The Players: Ray Winstone (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) stars as Gary "Gal" Dove, a former master safe-cracker who retires to Spain with the love of his life after spending nine years in prison. Dove's peace is shattered when Don Logan (Kingsley) unexpectedly arrives at his villa demanding that he take part in a difficult underwater heist for London crime boss Teddy Bass (Ian McShane). Logan vehemently refuses to take "no" for an answer, which causes all manner of psychological turmoil for Dove — including dreams and hallucinations involving a demonic mutant cowboy rabbit with an itchy trigger finger that makes Donnie Darko's "Frank" look like the Easter Bunny.
