Movie Flashback: 4 Years Ago Anne Hathaway Turned into a Bridezilla in This Rom-Com
01.09.13 by Chris
This year Anne Hathaway is an Oscar contender for her role in Les Misérables but four years go she was turning Kate Hudson's hair blue in this bridal feud.
Hathaway has come a long way from her The Princess Diaries days. Today she's an A-list actress who starred in one of the biggest blockbusters of the year, The Dark Knight Rises, and capped the year off as a shoo-in for an Oscar nod for her performance in Les Misérables. The actress took a little detour in her road to Oscar glory by starring in the Kate Hudson romantic comedy Bride Wars, which was released four years ago today.
In an interview, Hathaway seemed to acknowledge exactly what kind of movie she had signed up for but that she really didn't care. She described Bride Wars as being "hideously commercial – gloriously so." Unlike most of Hathaway's work, Bride Wars was panned by critics. The movie has an 11 percent approval rating on RottenTomatoes.com and Time named it one of the worst chick flicks of all time.
But Hathaway did get some acclaim for her role. She was nominated for two MTV Movie Awards (Best Female Performance and Best Fight) and won Choice Comedy Movie Actress at the Teen Choice Awards.
Still, the movie was a a hit. The movie grossed $21 million in its opening weekend and made $115 million worldwide (off a $30 million production budget). But now that Hathaway is on her way to collect some serious trophies come this award season, don't expect her to jump back in rom-com pool any time soon.
Where to watch: Bride Wars is available on on DVD and Blu-ray and streaming on Amazon, iTunes, and Vudu.
