"I'm sweating like a pregnant nun back here."
Journey along with a pair of brothers on the hunt for the truth behind the murder of a sheriff in this sometimes brilliant, sometimes messy, and often trashy film noir thriller set in 1960s Florida.
The Flick: The Paperboy
The Skinny: The follow-up to director Lee Daniels' critically-acclaimed 2009 drama Precious, The Paperboy is based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Pete Dexter. Criticized by many for being trashy and melodramatic to the point of camp at times, others have praised the movie for precisely the same reasons. Most agree that Nicole Kidman steals the spotlight with her electrifying performance.
The Players: Matthew McConaughey stars as Ward Jansen, an investigative reporter for a Miami newspaper who is determined to discover the truth about the murder of an unscrupulous local sheriff that has landed a possibly innocent man (John Cusack) on death row. Ward's investigation becomes complicated when his younger brother, James (Zac Efron), falls for the sultry Charlotte Bless (Nicole Kidman), who has been corresponding with the murderer in prison. Scott Glenn and R&B singer Macy Gray also star.
