"No piece of art is worth a human life."
After winning the Academy Award for his direction of 2008's Slumdog Millionaire and scoring a Best Picture nomination for his follow-up, 127 Hours, it's strange that it took so long for Danny Boyle's latest movie, Trance, to find distribution in the United States. Already slated to open in March in the U.K., Trance will finally reach U.S. shores in April, with the delay perhaps explained by the fact that the movie was funded and shot in Britain.
Trance follows James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class) as a fine art auctioneer who plots to steal a fine art painting after being mixed up with a gang led by Vincent Cassel (Black Swan). After McAvoy double-crosses the gang, he is beaten over the head and can no longer remember where he has hidden the painting, and seeks help from a hypnotherapist (Rosario Dawson). The resulting first trailer (and its subsequent poster), reveal a story where the line between reality and hypnotic suggestion become blurred and the question of everyone's real intentions is not easily answered.
Trance opens in limited release on April 5th and will open in wider release in the weeks that follow.
