Follow along with a quadriplegic aristocrat and his ex-con caregiver from the projects as the two discover the power of laughter and camaraderie.
The Flick: The Intouchables
The Skinny: Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano (Nos Jours Heureux) wrote and directed this uplifting, irreverent dramedy based on the true story of Philippe Pozzo di Borgo and his caregiver Abdel Sellou. Nine weeks after its theatrical premiere in France, The Intouchables became the second-highest grossing domestic release. The movie was nominated for eight César Awards and earned Omar Sy the César Award for Best Actor.
The Players: François Cluzet (Little White Lies) stars as Philippe, a French millionaire who becomes a quadriplegic after a terrible hangliding accident. While interviewing candidates to serve as his live-in caregiver, Philippe takes a liking to Driss (Sy), an Algerian ex-con who had no intention of getting the job, and offers him the job on a trial basis. Despite the fact that the two men have seemingly nothing in common, they form a bond built out of mutual respect, honesty and humor.
