"Above all: don't lose hope."
Set sail for adventure with a young boy adrift at sea who is forced to contend with more than just the elements if he is to survive.
The Flick: Life of Pi
The Skinny: Acclaimed director Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain) directed this visually stunning 3D adaptation of Yann Martel’s international best seller of the same name. Life of Pi was nominated for eleven Oscars at this year's Academy Awards and won four, including Best Director, the second for Lee.
The Players: Irrfan Khan (The Amazing Spider-Man) stars as Piscine "Pi" Patel, an Indian immigrant living in Canada who recounts to a novelist (Rafe Spall) the story of how he survived 227 days at sea after the Japanese freighter his family booked passage on sank during a storm. Then only sixteen, Pi (Suraj Sharma) found himself adrift on the open ocean in a small lifeboat with limited supplies and a hungry Bengal tiger named Richard Parker as his only companion. As if the threats of starvation and being eaten by a tiger weren't bad enough, young Pi also had to contend with water that burns like acid, breaching whales and carnivorous plants.
