Reelz Exclusive: Character Sketches and Concept Artwork from DreamWorks Animation’s The Croods

In one week's time, DreamWorks Animation — the studio behind Shrek, Madagascar and How to Train Your Dragon, just to name a few — will be giving us all a little pre-history lesson, when its latest animated feature, The Croods, opens in theaters nationwide. The movie transports us back to the wondrous and terrifying "Croodaceous Era," a heretofore unknown time period when early humans shared the Earth with amalgamated beasts that had yet to evolve into familiar forms.
Thanks to the two trailers and the many posters that have been popping up on billboards and bus stops in recent weeks, we've already gotten to know a little about the eponymous cave-dwelling family at the heart of the story and the colorful and exotic world-that-time-forgot that they dwell in. Now, Titan Books has offered us a chance to look even further back in time, to the very creation of the Croods and their world, by providing us with an exclusive look at The Art of the Croods, the official art book of the movie containing more than 400 pieces of concept artwork, character sketches, storyboards, and digital paintings.
The Croods was written and directed by Kirk DeMicco (Space Chimps) and Chris Sanders (How to Train Your Dragon). It features the voice talents of Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke and Cloris Leachman. Here's the synopsis:
The Croods takes us back to the beginning, to a previously undiscovered era known as the Croodaceous period, a time when Mother Nature was still experimenting and the animals, flora and fauna we know today hadn’t evolved yet. Trying to find their evolutionary niche are The Croods, a family who must adapt to survive after their cave home is destroyed.
