"It's moments like these where I realize what a superhero I am."
Sure the recent trailers for Iron Man 3 have shown a fairly grim future for Tony Stark, aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), but the latest promotional footage is quick to remind audiences that Iron Man is still a comic book hero after all, and one kids can enjoy cheering for.
The footage comes from two new ads created for last Saturday’s Kids’ Choice Awards, which shows Stark back in his lab creating new Iron Man armor and feeling pretty good about his place in the superhero universe, with nary a mention of The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley), the adversary of the highly-anticipated sequel.
Here is the first (very brief) Iron Man 3 teaser, released in advance of the Kids' Choice Awards broadcast.
And below is the full spot that aired during the show.
So while it's great to see a happier Tony Stark making new armor in his home lab, there might be those who can't forget that Stark's house is blown up in previous trailers. As for how those images and the newer footage for together, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently gave an explanation (via SuperHeroHype), though we must warn, what he said contains SPOILERS.
You’ve seen in the trailers that there’s an attack on Tony’s house. So by the end of the first act of Iron Man 3, his house is gone. His technology is gone. All he has is a barely functioning, prototype suit that, soon after he escapes from the house that’s destroyed, is not functioning at all. So Tony finds himself in the middle of the United States of America, in Rose Hill, Tennessee, completely out of his element.
END SPOILERS Iron Man 3 was adapted by director Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) with screenwriter Drew Pearce. Don Cheadle returns as James "Rhodey" Rhodes/War Machine, as does Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts. Franchise newcomers include Rebecca Hall as Dr. Maya Hansen and Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian.
