"I got you."
Sometimes studios just aren't sure where to draw the line between releasing promotional material that teases a movie and releasing footage that spoils surprises. When it comes to the fervor surrounding comic book movies and their fanbases, there seems to be a collective air that there's no stopping the secrets from getting out so they might as well do so — when the studio's ready, of course — and this seems to include Marvel and their upcoming sequel Iron Man 3.
Marvel is usually adept at playing close to the vest — the alien invaders and Thanos reveal in The Avengers was kept quiet until the movie's release, for example. The studio has already released some new Iron Man 3 footage in two new TV spots, and they must be fine with letting the public know that Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) is going to get her own suit of armor, since it is clearly revealed in the latest international TV spot.
Perhaps the studio felt comfortable with the reveal since Pepper has already become the armored hero Rescue in the Marvel comic books and, since Tony Stark's (Robert Downey Jr.) best friend James "Rhodey" Rhodes (Don Cheadle) is already fighting bad guys as War Machine, it was only a matter of time. Furthermore, Paltrow has already discussed the fact that Pepper gets her own suit of armor.
There were talks of Pepper getting in the suit at the end of Iron Man 2, but Marvel wasn’t ready to do it yet...I know Robert was really interested in having Pepper do more in this movie, and it was also a factor in me coming back and getting to do things that were a little bit more fun and different and a little bit more adventurous. It would’ve still been nice, but it would’ve been very much the same thing just to be buttoned-up Pepper, and in this movie there’s a whole different experience of her.
Iron Man 3 was adapted by director Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) with screenwriter Drew Pearce. The cast includes Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin, Rebecca Hall as Dr. Maya Hansen and Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian.
