"You sure you can trust this guy?"
Comic books have become an increasingly popular resource for movies and TV these days, even the ones that lack superhumans dressed in tights. Such is the case for Universal's adaptation of 2 Guns, which is based on the Boom! Studios graphic novel by writer Steven Grant and artist Mat Santolouco. 2 Guns stars Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg as two undercover agents from competing bureaus working to bring down a drug cartel. The only problem is, neither agent knows the other is undercover. In the movie's first trailer, once the two agents discover the others' identity, the pair's real problems begin.
Here's the synopsis for 2 Guns.
2 Guns is an explosive action film that tracks two operatives from competing bureaus who are forced on the run together. But there is a big problem with their unique alliance: Neither knows that the other is an undercover federal agent.
For the past 12 months, DEA agent Bobby Trench (Washington) and U.S. naval intelligence officer Marcus Stigman (Wahlberg) have been reluctantly attached at the hip. Working undercover as members of a narcotics syndicate, each man distrusts his partner as much as the criminals they have both been tasked to take down.
When their attempt to infiltrate a Mexican drug cartel and recover millions goes haywire, Trench and Stigman are suddenly disavowed by their superiors. Now that everyone wants them in jail or in the ground, the only person they can count on is the other. Unfortunately for their pursuers, when good guys spend years pretending to be bad, they pick up a few tricks along the way.
2 Guns was adapted by TV writer Blake Masters and was directed by Wahlberg's Contraband director Baltasar Kormákur, who replaced original director David O. Russell (The Fighter). Paula Patton and Bill Paxton co-star.
