Back in 2010, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief opened in theaters, ready to capitalize on the popularity of Harry Potter — Christopher Columbus, the director the first two Harry Potter movies, was at the helm. Like Potter, it told a story of a young kid who finds out he has extraordinary powers and is actually the son of an extraordinary parent (in this case, Poseidon). Though critics were mixed, the movie made enough money for a sequel, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters, which will put the Percy Jackson movie franchise to the test this summer.
In this second installment, based on the second book in Rick Riordan's Camp Half-Blood series, Percy (Logan Lerman) and his friends Grover (Brandon T. Jackson) and Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario) must retrieve the Golden Fleece, which has the power to save their training ground home. Only, the have to travel to the Bermuda Triangle, aka the Sea of Monsters, to get it.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters was adapted by Scot Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (1408, Man of the Moon) and directed by Thor Freudenthal (Diary of a Wimpy Kid). Nathan Fillion and Stanley Tucci co-star.
