"We think they see all our flaws. That's not what they are looking to find when they look to us."
Journey back in time to witness a historical meeting between two world leaders from the voyeuristic perspective of a secret mistress.
The Flick: Hyde Park on Hudson
The Skinny: Playwright and screenwriter Richard Nelson was inspired to write the screenplay for Hyde Park on Hudson after reading the story of Margaret "Daisy" Suckley, the sixth cousin and suspected mistress of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. British theater, television and film director Roger Michell (Changing Lanes) was always Nelson's first choice to direct the movie, but Michell was unavailable initially so Nelson turned his screenplay into a radio play, which the BBC produced in 2009. Once Michell's schedule cleared up, Nelson once again approached him to direct.
The Players: Bill Murray stars as President Roosevelt, delivering an inspired performance that earned him numerous accolades, including a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy. The movie centers around the historical June 1939 meeting between President Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt (Olivia Williams) and King George VI (Samuel West) and Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) at Roosevelt's country estate in Hyde Park, New York — the first visit of a reigning English monarch to the United States — a meeting that Roosevelt hoped to use to drum up domestic support for the British on the eve of World War II. Laura Linney and Elizabeth Wilson also star.
