The Flick: Antiviral
The Skinny: Brandon Cronenberg, son of legendary director David Cronenberg (Cosmopolis), wrote and directed this sci-fi thriller about viruses, diseases and celebrity worship. Cronenberg conceived the idea for the movie during a fever-induced dream. The movie competed in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.
The Players: Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men: First Class) stars as Syd March, an employee at a clinic that sells injections of live viruses harvested from sick celebrities to their fans. To make extra money, Syd smuggles viruses out of the clinic in his own body to sell on the black market. But, Syd's health and sanity are jeopardized when he smuggles out the virus that killed famous actress Hannah Geist (Sarah Gadon). Malcolm McDowell and Nicholas Campbell also star.
