ENGAGED One of Hollywood's power couples is making it official. According to People, actress Amber Heard, 27, and actor Johnny Depp, 50, are engaged to be married. The couple met on the set of the 2011 movie The Rum Diary and went public with their relationship in 2012 after Depp and his partner of 14 years, French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis, called it quits. The pair will once again share the silver screen in the upcoming dark crime thriller London Fields.
STAR WARS Last week, we heard several rumors about J.J. Abrams' highly anticipated new Star Wars movie, and now we know that at least one of those rumors was true. While attending the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Sunday, Abrams confirmed that Breaking Bad actor Jesse Plemons "is one of the actors" up for a coveted role in Episode VII. In perhaps even bigger news, Abrams revealed to TheWrap that the the script is completed and that he is "in deep prep," adding, "Full steam ahead, y’know." Abrams went on to say that it is unlikely he will use IMAX cameras during production, for various reasons.
GOTHAM After initially declaring that Sons of Anarchy's Donal Logue had been offered the lead role of James Gordon in Fox's upcoming Gotham TV series, LatinoReview amended the scoop to specify that Logue had actually been offered the role of Det. Harvey Bullock. Though comic book fans know Bullock as a cop prone to taking bribes and dishing out excessive force, the character will be more of a mentor figure to Gordon on the show. The series will feature the origins of such classic characters as the Riddler, the Penguin and Catwoman, and follow the progress of "young Bruce Wayne from a child (around 12) into the final episode of the series, when he will put on the cape."
TARZAN If you don't already know Australian actress Margot Robbie from her star-making performance in The Wolf of Wall Street, you soon will because Robbie has three movies in post-production. She's rumored to be in line to replace Amanda Seyfried in Craig Zobel's Z for Zachariah and, according to TheWrap, she is in talks to play Jane in David Yates' Tarzan movie opposite Alexander Skarsgard as the feral hero. Christoph Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson are also slated to star in what Warner Bros. hopes will be the first of many adaptations of Edgar Rice Burroughs' jungle adventures.
NO GO Just when we were getting excited about Quentin Tarantino's new movie, The Hateful Eight, the filmmaker pulled the plug on the Western that would have likely starred Michael Madsen. Tarantino gave the work-in-progress script for the movie to a very small pool of people, but it somehow managed to leak out and he is steamed about it. Tarantino told Deadline that he is "very, very depressed" about the leak and that he plans to publish the script, rather than go forward with making the movie: "I give it out to six people, and if I can't trust them to that degree, then I have no desire to make it. I'll publish it. I'm done. I'll move on to the next thing. I've got 10 more where that came from."
