R.I.P. Emmy-winning television pioneer and comedy legend Sid Caesar died Wednesday at his home in Beverly Hills. He was 91. Caesar was one of the most beloved entertainers in America during the '50s and one of TV's first true superstars thanks to the success of his 90-minute sketch comedy/variety program Your Show of Shows, which eschewed the vaudeville-influenced slapstick comedy of the day for absurdist sketches containing characters and situations. Legendary actor, comedian and producer Carl Reiner praised his good friend, calling him the "greatest sketch comedian-monologist that television ever produced" in an interview with KNX-AM in Los Angeles, via Variety.

FLASH Fans of the '90s Flash TV series are rejoicing about THR's report that the original speedster, John Wesley Shipp, will be joining the cast of The CW's The Flash TV pilot as a "mysterious character." Though the CBS series only lasted 22 episodes during the 1990-91 season, fans have always appreciated Shipp's performance as police scientist-turned-superhero Barry Allen, not to mention the fantastic costume designed by Robert Short. The series was also notable for its great guest stars, including Mark Hamill as The Trixter. The CW pilot spins off of the Green Arrow-inspired series Arrow. If the pilot generates a series order, Shipp's guest starring role could be expanded to a recurring role.
KING Who's ready to get creeped out all over again? Master of horror Stephen King announced on his website that he will have a new book coming out this year titled Revival. It will be published by Scribner and Hodder & Stoughton on November 11, 2014. Here's the synopsis:
In a small New England town, over half a century ago, a shadow falls over a small boy playing with his toy soldiers. Jamie Morton looks up to see a striking man, the new minister. Charles Jacobs, along with his beautiful wife, will transform the local church. The men and boys are all a bit in love with Mrs. Jacobs; the women and girls feel the same about Reverend Jacobs — including Jamie’s mother and beloved sister, Claire. With Jamie, the Reverend shares a deeper bond based on a secret obsession. When tragedy strikes the Jacobs family, this charismatic preacher curses God, mocks all religious belief, and is banished from the shocked town.
Jamie has demons of his own. Wed to his guitar from the age of 13, he plays in bands across the country, living the nomadic lifestyle of bar-band rock and roll while fleeing from his family’s horrific loss. In his mid-thirties—addicted to heroin, stranded, desperate — Jamie meets Charles Jacobs again, with profound consequences for both men. Their bond becomes a pact beyond even the Devil’s devising, and Jamie discovers that revival has many meanings.
OSCARS Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O will perform "The Moon Song" from the movie Her during the pre-Oscar concert, reports Variety. Previously announced performers include Pharrell, Idina Menzel and U2. The Oscars will be held March 2.
MUPPETS Miss Piggy flaunted her stunning new Vivienne Westwood wedding gown via Facebook, adding that her only concern about the big day was whether Kermit could handle it:
Moi is beyond thrilled to give you a first look at the couture wedding gown made for me by Vivienne Westwood for a big (and Oscar-worthy) scene in Muppets Most Wanted!
Vivienne Westwood is fabulous—just like moi! When I asked her to design this wedding dress she was thrilled and I was thrilled. The only one a bit 'iffy' about it was the Frog. Can vous handle the GLAMOUR?!
GRIMSBY Paramount Pictures passed on Sacha Baron Cohen's comedy about a British black-ops spy and his idiot brother, but Sony has picked up worldwide rights and made a commitment to make the movie. Baron Cohen co-wrote the movie with Phil Johnston and Peter Baynham. In response to the studio move, Baron Cohen told Deadline (translated from French): "Any studio that puts out a movie where Leonardo DiCaprio snorts cocaine from a hooker’s anus is a place I’m happy to call home." Grimsby will be released on July 31, 2015.
ILM The award-winning VFX division of Lucasfilm — now owned by Disney — is opening a new branch in central London, reports THR. The studio will handle all of the work on J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII, portions of Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: The Winter Soldier and other Disney-owned projects.
