Thor and Gale Hawthorne Sought for a Hemsworth Raid
02.26.14 by Ryan
Only a few years ago, Chris Hemsworth was competing with his brother Liam Hemsworth for the title role in Marvel's adaptation of Thor. Chris clearly won the role of the god of thunder, but Liam received a fine consolation prize with the role of Gale Hawthorne in the Hunger Games franchise. Now they may team up together in a new movie.
According to The Wrap, Patrick Hughes, director of the upcoming The Expendables 3, is set to direct the American remake of the 2011 Indonesian action movie The Raid, released in the U.S. as The Raid: Redemption. Hughes is eying the Hemsworth brothers as the potential leads in what is sure to be a high adrenaline action movie.
The original Raid followed a rookie SWAT officer whose unit is sent to liberate a block of slum apartments from the crime lord that lords over the innocent residents. Secretly, the young cop is also hoping to intercept his criminal brother and convince him to change his ways.
The Raid: Redemption enjoyed respectable global success, with the sequel The Raid 2: Berandal set for release in March, and the remake could mean the beginning of yet another franchise for the Hemsworth brothers, only this time, a brothers' franchise. Er, a movie franchise starring the brothers, but is also about brothers. You know what we mean.
Production on the Raid remake is set to begin this fall, so expect clarity about casting the Hemsworth brothers soon. If the brothers Hemsworth pass on a potential Hemsworth sandwich, perhaps screenwriter Brad Ingelsby can convince his Out of the Furnace actor Casey Affleck to team with his brother Ben Affleck for the movie. Ok, Ben might be a little busy with the whole Man of Steel sequel, but, hey, this is about brothers. You never know.
