"There’s two types of evil in this life: Secondary evil - the evil that men do - and primary evil, which is something else entirely."
In the new trailer for horror flick Deliver Us from Evil we are treated to a variety of horror tropes including creepy children's toys, under-the-bed monster hijinks, and mirror-based jump scares. Eric Bana plays it straight as New York cop Ralph Sarchie who investigates a series of possessions plaguing the Big Apple. The trailer for this spookfest is just an appetizer to the main course in what is likely to be a "primary evil" plot.
Now that the rolling stuffed head has you sufficiently creeped out, do you want to know the kicker? This thriller is based on a book of real-life cases experienced by the real Officer Ralph Sarchie. That’s right, the events you see in this movie apparently happened. So good luck sleeping at night after you see this one.
Deliver Us From Evil, also stars Olivia Munn (Magic Mike, The Newsroom) as Sarchie’s wife, and it is the latest thriller from writer and director Scott Derrickson, the same director who brought us Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Edgar Ramirez (The Counselor) plays an unusual priest, who is "schooled in the rituals of exorcism," and partners with Sarchie. Together they prepare to come up against, and put a stop to, the possessions that are frightening the city.
Deliver Us From Evil is set to hit theaters July 2, 2014.
