Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles First Trailer Arrives to Save the Day

Fans no doubt have some trepidation over the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, whether it was over Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes production company have been shepherding the project for years or the fact that, at one point, the Turtles were going to be from "an alien race" instead of their green ooze mutation that came from the original comic books. Bay later dismissed the "alien race" notion (after first telling fans to "chill"), but co-creator Kevin Eastman has remained steadfastly in favor of the project, even working with the screenwriters on subsequent drafts of the script.
Of course, it isn't without irony that fans would be so sacrosanct in their feeling over characters who were initially created to spoof comic books of the 1980's, in particular Marvel's Daredevil, whose origin story is liberally borrowed from. Yet, after 20 years of comics, movies, cartoons and other merchandise the Turtles have transcended into something more than pizza-loving martial artists in the eyes of their fans. So, now that the first trailer has made it online, what can fans expect from the finished product? Co-screenwriter Andre Nemec told LatinoReview that the reboot is not unlike a Dark Knight, but, you know, for kids.
"Tone was very interesting on this movie, color palettes that were chosen weren’t designed to be Dark Knight-ish in that regard," Nemec explained. "We weren’t looking to make that movie and I’m a huge fan of that movie but I didn’t eat gobs of popcorn while watching it. We certainly didn’t want kids to be running to the exits, we really wanted to entertain and have fun with it. I think we live on a very fun line."
See if you agree by watching the trailer below, which reveals Megan Fox as the Turtles' human sidekick April O'Neil and The Dark Knight's William Fichtner as the new Shredder, while playing coy with the idea of heroes without ever fully saying "heroes in a half shell."
