Chef Trailer: Jon Favreau Cooks for Redemption
04.07.14 by Ryan
"Starting from scratch never tasted so good" reads the poster for Chef and the tagline works to not only describe the movie's plot but of the career trajectory of writer-director-star Jon Favreau.
Having broken through in the 1996 indie hit Swingers, Favreau went on to direct blockbuster movies like Iron Man and, most recently, Cowboys & Aliens. With Chef, Favreau is returning to his indie roots, but bringing his blockbuster pals along for the ride as he plays Carl Casper, a chef who decides to reinvent himself by purchasing a food truck and uniting with his ex wife (Sofia Vergara) and son (Emjay Anthony). Also appearing are Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson.
"I was really excited to do something that was not part of a big committee and a big collaboration," Favreau recently admitted to The Hollywood Reporter. "It's about a character in transition in life, a person trying to find his voice and reconnect with his passions. So this was me seizing an opportunity to do something that was completely satisfying for me artistically, and I feel very lucky to have done it. It was really exciting to go back to my roots in independent film and face the challenges that I used to face with time and money — but not having to face the challenges of making a case for my creative vision in a roomful of people who all might have different opinions.
