Our Top 10 Favorite Hookers with Hearts of Gold from the Movies

The classic western mini-series Lonesome Dove rides back to REELZ starting Saturday at 8pm ET/5pm PT. Its all star cast includes the young, sweet-faced Diane Lane playing the cutest, nicest, most loyal prostitute we've ever seen. In honor of Lane's Lorena Wood, we decided to put together a list of our all-time favorite hookers with hearts of gold. They may walk the streets, but these ladies have still managed to capture our hearts.
There’s no doubt that Diane Lane’s old west working girl is not your typical lady of the night. For one, she seems to mostly work during the daytime, and two she’ll only accept a “poke” from a customer she likes. It might not be the best business model, but since half the town of Lonesome Dove is in love with her, she can make it work.
Kim Basinger’s turn as a prostitute who looked like a movie star won her an Oscar as well as the opportunity to make out with a young, hot Russell Crowe. While Lynn might’ve lived in a fabulous art deco house and have worn fabulous bias-cut frocks, in her heart she was just a small-town girl who wanted a traditional life.
Deuce wasn't a guy who was looking to get into the oldest profession, he was just an unsuspecting fish-tank cleaner who needed to come up with some cash. Sure, he was a pretty shallow guy, but Deuce always did his very best to make all his clients feel better about themselves. Even if his motivations for making his clients feel attractive and accepted were a little self-serving, we feel that in this particular case the means justify the end.
We know; technically Elisha Cuthbert’s Danielle is actually a former porn star, and not a prostitute. For the purposes of this list though, she fits the bill. She’s a sweet girl with a good heart who just can’t escape her past, and it's no wonder that her teenaged neighbor ends up with more than a little bit of a crush on her.
Talk about not being able to catch a break, Fantine can’t even continue to keep a lousy factory job. Or her hair. Or her teeth. But she definitely has a heart made out of 24 carat gold, all the way to her tragic, song-fueled death. She by far had the roughest road of any of the ladies on this list, but in the end, that road took Anne Hathaway to Oscar-ville. Even if things were rough for Fantine, everything came up golden for Hathaway.
Poor Finnick. His one true love, Annie, is back home in District 4, but the political machinations of the Capitol turned him into a boy toy for hire. He might talk like a smarmy creep, but it’s clear that his persona is just a survival mechanism. We still probably wouldn’t accept a sugar cube from Finnick, but it’s clear that despite his conquests, he's loyal to the core.
Chiyo sees herself more as a kept woman than a lady of the night, but when sexual experiences are sold at auction, we're pretty sure we have a contender for the list. The reason that Chiyo has a spot near the top of this countdown is because no matter what her title or station in life, she carries on. Chiyo also remained loyal in her heart to her one true love, no matter how many other handsome, powerful men came into her life.
We wish we could be half as upbeat, optimistic and easygoing as Heather Graham’s Jade from The Hangover. She takes life as it comes, and she's even understanding when her husband leaves her only hours after their wedding. We also love Jade because she has no shame about what she does for a living. And why should she? There's no doubt that she's a pro in the very best sense of the word.
In this Mike Judge cult classic, Maya Rudolph’s Rita is both a prostitute and the smartest woman on earth. Who can beat a combination like that? In addition to those qualities, she's street smart, she steps in and rescues the hero at the very last moment, and she’s able to wear tight, shiny clothing covered in corporate logos and still look good.
Sure, Julia Roberts’ Vivian shows up on lists like this all the time, but let’s not forget about Laura San Giacomo’s Kit. Whether she's propositioning an older couple at the front desk of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel or trying to remind her friend that sometimes the fairy tale does actually come true, there's no working girl with a heart more pure or more golden than Kit De Luca's.
