Fights Rumored (and Cinematic) on the Robin Hood Set

A rumor of production troubles for Robin Hood, which is now shooting in England, was dismissed by the studio as the product of "a very slow gossip day." Studio execs did, as rumored, fly to the set, but not to settle some fight between the movie's star Russell Crowe and the director Ridley Scott. It was rather, the Universal Pictures chairman says, to take a look at more than an hour of nearly completed footage, which he describes as "nothing short of spectacular."
Some pretty intense fighting was undeniably being filmed for the movie, though. In an on-set interview with an Australian radio station, Crowe describes how he went all medieval on the enemy in the midst of the day's mayhem:
... chopping one guy through the chest through his crossbow, hacking another guy through the back, spinning the horse, telling Little John to duck cause he's about to get a pike in the back of the neck, burying my sword in that man's chest, turning then to find another pike man coming at me, taking the pike off him, using that to uppercut another soldier, then actually throwing it through the chest of another guy.
But for Ridley Scott, the actor had nothing but praise, saying that working with him is like working with the Renaissance artist Titian as he brings a picture to life.
