Blake Lively Lands Lead Role in Green Lantern

Considering her lack of comic book movie — or even action movie — experience, Blake Lively seemed the unlikeliest actress to win the role of the Green Lantern's love interest, Carol Ferris, of all the 5 candidates reportedly considered for the part. However, THR reports that the Gossip Girl and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants actress impressed with her audition and beat out the competition for the upcoming comic book adaptation.
As far as the rest of the cast goes, Ryan Reynolds has been cast as the emerald hero, while the rest of cast remains unknown. The villain roles of Dr. Hector Hammond and Sinestro will most likely be cast next.
Green Lantern was recently given the official green light (no pun intended) by the studio and will begin production in New Orleans in 10 weeks, with Martin Campbell directing from a script that Michael Goldenberg is currently rewriting. Marc Guggenheim, Greg Berlanti, and Michael Green wrote the earlier draft.
Green Lantern is set for release amidst a crowded summer line-up, opening a month after Thor and a month before The First Avenger: Captain America on June 17, 2011. Sony is still hoping that Spider-Man 4 will also be ready for release that summer, though the movie was just pushed back after script issues delayed the production.
