Following in the footsteps of A Night at the Roxbury and The Ladies Man, another Saturday Night Live (SNL) sketch is making the leap from the TV screen to the silver screen. The latest is MacGruber, starring veteran SNL cast member Will Forte in an action-comedy movie that spoofs the MacGyver TV series that aired from 1985-1992.
Produced by Relativity Media, MacGruber was directed by the sketch's creator, Jorma Taccone, who also co-wrote the script of the film with Forte and John Solomon. IAmRogue, the official site for Relativity Media properties, has just debuted several promotional images and a Red Band trailer, accompanied by a brief synopsis of the film.
Only one American hero has earned the rank of Green Beret, Navy SEAL and Army Ranger. Just one operative has been awarded 16 purple hearts, 3 Congressional Medals of Honor and 7 presidential medals of bravery. And only one guy is man enough to still sport a mullet. In 2010, Will Forte brings Saturday Night Live’s clueless soldier of fortune to the big screen in the action comedy MacGruber.
MacGruber also stars Val Kilmer, Ryan Phillippe, and SNL cast members Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph. Richard Dean Anderson, who played Angus "Mac" MacGyver on the TV series that inspired the original sketch, is rumored to have a cameo in the movie.
And, we're especially pleased to note, that MacGruber's cast also includes Casey Messer, host of ReelzChannel's Movies & Music and First Fans.
