At the Cinematic Vanguard Awards, SuperheroHype spoke to two upcoming comic book movie villains — Christoph Waltz and Peter Sarsgaard — about their respective roles in Green Hornet and Green Lantern. Waltz plays L.A. crime boss Chudnofsky, who is attempting to unite the city's crime families, while Sarsgaard will play Dr. Hector Hammond, a pathologist who becomes infused with psychic powers after discovering a meteor. Waltz explained why his character is against the Green Hornet, and mentions an unsurprising semi-spoiler that Green Hornet may have the villain lose.
Well, because he's a competitor. There's a
misunderstanding between the two of them and they have to sort it out
through the course of the movie. They do sort it out through the course of the movie, but unfortunately it happens fatally for one of them and it wasn't Seth [Rogen].
Sarsgaard wanted to keep more mystery to his performance of Hammond, giving nothing away when asked about his character's costume. "I don't know," replied Sarsgaard. He admitted he was looking forward to working again with Tim Robbins, who was recently cast as Senator Hammond, Sarsgaard's disapproving father. Robbins gave Sarsgaard his first acting role.
He gave me my first job — Dead Man Walking. I think he looks at me like I'm this young guy that was in this movie. I think you're always that to someone. I look at him like he was the guy that gave me my first job and I have immense respect for him. He does not feel like an equal to me. He feels like a God. He's a lot taller than I am.
Green Hornet opens December 22, while Green Lantern starts production this March and opens June 17, 2011.
