The Coen Brothers Cast Their Third Lead in True Grit

Joel and Ethan Coen have finally found their final lead to go alongside Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon in their upcoming True Grit. Variety reports that the Coens have cast newcomer Hailee Steinfield in the role of Mattie Ross, a 14-year-old girl who teams up with U.S. Marshall Rooster Cogburn (Bridges) and heads into Native American territory to find her father's murderer (Josh Brolin). Damon plays a lawman who teams up with the pair. The Coens plan to have the movie from Steinfield's point of view.
Rather than remake the 1969 movie starring John Wayne, the Coens chose to return to the original source material, the novel by Charles Portis. Shooting begins next month in New Mexico for a scheduled December 25, 2010 release.
