Diary of a Wimpy Kid Reviews

As big fans of the book series we've previously expressed concern about the live-action adaptation. The Chicago Tribune's Michael Phillips does cite the live action as what removes all the books' considerable charm, but most other critics seem to like the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie quite a bit.
"...it's nimble, bright and funny. It doesn't dumb down. It doesn't patronize. It knows something about human nature. It isn't as good as A Christmas Story, as few movies are, but it deserves a place in the same sentence."
— Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
"...a delightful movie..."
— Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly
"...a spry, fluffy comedy..."
— Lael Lowenstein, Variety
"...a likable movie for kids that will make adults chuckle as well because of the movie's key ingredient — wit."
— Kirk Honeycutt, Hollywood Reporter
"Kids may love the movie, and even kids who love the books may like it. For me, though, an astonishing percentage of the books' appeal has vanished."
— Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune
