Director Zack Snyder Discusses 300 in 3-D and Xerxes Prequel

Director Zack Snyder is currently in post-production on two movies—Legend of the Guardians and Sucker Punch — but comic book fans are eager to know when he is going to return to the genre that he has so faithfully brought to life twice before in 300 and Watchmen. In an interview with ComingSoon from ShoWest, Snyder said that he is busy working on his other movies right now, but fans could be treated to a
re-release of 300 in 3-D in the near future.
I haven't seen the whole movie but they're talking about [converting] the whole movie [to 3-D]. I saw maybe like a ten-minute section that they'd just done. By the way, they did an amazing job.
Comic book visionary Frank Miller, who created the graphic novel that 300 is based upon, said back in December that he was working on a story for a sequel to 300 that would involve the classic Greek battle against the Persians at Marathon, which would actually make it a prequel. Snyder said that he would love to return to direct that movie — called Xerxes after the Persian king (played by Rodrigo Santoro) who accosted King Leonidas' (Gerard Butler) brave 300 Spartans in the original — but that there's no timetable because it's entirely up to Miller getting the story completed.
I'm waiting on Frank for the sequel to 300, and there's a really good chance that will be the thing we do. He's been working hard, yup, he absolutely has so he's supposed to show me something really soon, actually in the next few months, he's going to show me something.
There was a big discussion about what we would do for the sequel to 300 and I said, "I didn't tell Frank what to write the first time, and I'm not telling him what to write this time." I'll take it and I'll adapt it and make it into a movie and I'll write a screenplay, but I want him to do whatever he thinks.
