Captain America Female Lead Down to Two Actresses?

While Marvel was searching for the right actor for the lead role in The First Avenger: Captain America, word got out that the studio was also looking at three actresses for the role of love interest Peggy Carter — Keira Knightley, She's Out of My League's Alice Eve, and Emily Blunt. Blunt was offered the role, but turned it down, which leaves Marvel to decide between two actresses, only it's not the exactly the two names left after Blunt's departure.
EOnline reports that Eve is still a front runner, but adds that fellow British actress Hayley Atwell (Mansfield Park) is also screen-testing for the role alongside Eve "for the second time" in London. Knightley, meanwhile, is out of the running for unexplained reasons.
In the comic books, Peggy Carter was an American agent who served with French Resistance during World War II. After meeting Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America, the two fell into a short-lived romance that ended once Captain America was declared dead after an accident in the North Atlantic.
Whichever actress Marvel decides to hire will join Chris Evans as Captain America, and Sebastian Stan as Captain America's sidekick, James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes. Production on the movie starts in June with Joe Johnston directing.
