Jon Favreau Discusses Scarlett Johansson's Mysterious Role in Iron Man 2

It's still unclear whether Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow will be friend or foe in Iron Man 2, though director Jon Favreau has said that the upcoming sequel won't suffer from "villainitis" and that her character is used to add tension to Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr.'s relationship. There may be more to Johansson's role than just creating a romantic triangle, however. Favreau revealed to The LA Times that Johannson's intentions in Iron Man 2 could be dubious.
She is not what she presents herself as, but I don't want to say more. It's fun to keep people guessing. Part of the comics is the mystery surrounding character and then the sexual dynamic but also the cold-blooded efficiency like the spider.
The character of the Black Widow has been both a hero and villain in the comics, and considering that Marvel has already revealed that Black Widow will play a part in their upcoming The Avengers, it would seem that whatever path Johansson's character takes, it will be of lasting impact. Favreau says Johansson dyed her hair red prior to meeting about the part and says he was continually impressed with her committed performance.
She's the best. You forget how young she is when you deal with her because she is such a smart woman. I get why Woody Allen has worked with her so many times because she is such a smart, smart woman. She asks the right questions, she's got that intelligence, but she's also very trusting in a director. And she busted her butt training.
