Summer is when studios roll out all of their biggest, baddest, most blockbustery movies — a season that starts earlier each year, it seems. Disney and DreamWorks just released new posters to promote their summer fare.
First up, a very confrontational poster for Shrek Forever After) that has Shrek (Mike Myers) and his fellow ogres squaring off against Rumpelstiltskin (Walt Dohrn) and a gaggle of witches. In this fourth chapter, everyone's favorite ogre is duped by Rumpelstiltskin into signing a pact that creates an alternate version of Far Far Away, one in which Shrek and Fiona (Cameron Diaz) have never met. Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas also return as the voices of Donkey and Puss in Boots, respectively.
Next up, two character posters for director Mike Newell's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the live-action epic with a supernatural touch based on the popular Ubisoft video game franchise. Apparently, Prince Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) had the day off, because he's nowhere in sight on these posters. One features Dastan's love interest, Princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton), while the other features his nemesis, Nizam (Sir Ben Kingsley). Unfortunately, like the recently released War Machine poster for Iron Man 2, these posters are simply older images in a new format. Both character images were previously seen, albeit cropped, in the theatrical poster.
Finally, Disney is promoting its live-action fantasy movie The Sorcerer's Apprentice with a new teaser poster featuring a mysterious looking Nicolas Cage sporting a magic ring. Cage plays Balthazar Blake, an elder sorcerer who takes on a young college student (Jay Baruchel) as his apprentice to help him protect the world from an evil magician (Alfred Molina).
Shrek Forever After opens May 21st, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time opens May 28th, and The Sorcerer's Apprentice opens July 16th.
