Samuel L. Jackson Won't Be in Thor, Will Be in Captain America and The Avengers

When Samuel L. Jackson signed a nine-movie deal with Marvel, the assumption was that he'd appear as Nick Fury in all Avengers-related movies like he did at the end of Iron Man. While Jackson's appearance in Iron Man 2 is a certainty, he's admitted that he wasn't sure if he would appear in Thor. In an interview with IESB, Jackson talked about his character's journey in Marvel's upcoming slate of movies.
I got started on it when I did the end of Iron Man 1. My foot was on the path. Now, my foot is a little deeper on the path 'cause we've got Iron Man 2. I'm not in Thor. I'm supposed to do Captain America this summer in London.
Jackson says he has "no idea" why he's not appearing in Thor.
I'm not in charge of making those decisions. I thought I was. They said I was in the trades, and I was like, "Oh, I've got a job!" And then, I called my agent and she said, "Nah, you're not in it. They misprinted." I was like, "Well s**t, they need to pay me just 'cause they put my name in it."
Jackson will be in The Avengers for sure, in what he called a "starring vehicle for that character." Production on The Avengers will start early next year.
That's not that far away. It's just February. I've got time to get in shape and everything.
Thor opens May 20, 2011, with The First Avenger: Captain America following on July 22. The Avengers opens May 4, 2012.
