Patrick Dempsey Joins Transformers 3

Michael Bay has said that Transformers 3 wouldn't feature as many robots as the previous two movies, and, so far, Bay has assembled a growing human cast for the upcoming sequel. Besides the usual suspects of Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Tyrese Gibson, and Josh Duhamel, Bay has recently added the surprising names of John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, and The Hangover's Ken Jeong. Now Variety reports that Patrick Dempsey has joined the cast.
The report claims that Dempsey will play a "darker" character, and EW confirmed the casting, adding that Dempsey will play Fox's boss in a role that is "significant to the plot." Dempsey, in an effort to not reveal much to the mainstream American media, told a Brazilian site some brief details about his role.
I start filming later this month. In Transformers 3 I play a character who is far more dark than others I've played.
Production will start preliminary work this month in Chicago before traveling to Africa, Moscow, and China. Transformers 3 is scheduled to open July 1, 2011, and, in a surprising move, isn't likely to be in 3-D. Bay declared his dislike of the 3-D conversion process in March, saying the result "looks like fake 3-D, with layers that are very apparent." Bay also claims his process is too aggresive" to shoot Transformers 3 in 3-D.
