First Official Trailer and New Still for Robert Rodriguez's Machete

The first full-length trailer for Robert Rodriguez's "Mex-ploitation" movie, Machete, was released yesterday and it's bound to be controversial. The movie tells the story of a day laborer (Danny Trejo) who is double-crossed after being hired to assassinate a senator (Robert DeNiro) for aggressively deporting illegal immigrants, and the trailer includes a prologue message by Trejo as Machete that is clearly aimed at the strict new immigration law recently passed in Arizona.
Beyond the political "insert" at the beginning of the trailer, what's interesting about it is that it blends new footage of the movie with footage previously seen in the "fake" trailer for the movie that appeared in Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse double feature. A new still has also been released that shows exactly why Trejo's character is called "Machete" in the first place.
Machete was co-directed by Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis and includes a cast comprised mostly of actors Rodriguez has worked with previously like Trejo, Cheech Marin, and Jessica Alba. The cast also includes surprising appearances by former "it girl" Lindsay Lohan and '80s heartthrob Don Johnson. Perhaps Rodriguez can revitalize the careers of Lohan and Johnson the way Tarantino did with John Travolta in Pulp Fiction.
