Samuel L. Jackson's cameo as Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division) after the credits of the original
Iron Man was so well received by the fans that it earned Jackson a nine-picture deal to reprise the role in other Marvel Studios movies. Jackson had a much beefier role as Fury in Iron Man 2 and revealed that, while he won't appear in Thor, he will star in The First Avenger: Captain America and in
The Avengers. However, that only accounts for three of the nine movies that he is under contract to appear in, which has left many comic book movie fans scratching their heads over what those other six movies might be. In a recent interview with Radio Big Boy, Jackson revealed what at least one of those other movies will be.
The Avengers should start shooting sometime next year, and then some time after that there’ll be a big S.H.I.E.L.D. movie.
Jackson did not offer up any other details about the S.H.I.E.L.D. movie, but he did add that War Machine (Don Cheadle) ...is gonna show up a lot," which seems to validate some theories that say War Machine and not Iron Man will appear in The Avengers because of [SPOILER WARNING: Stop reading now if you haven't seen Iron Man 2!] the Black Widow's (Scarlett Johansson) recommendation that "Iron Man" be included in The Avengers Initiative, but not Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.).
In addition to Jackson as Fury and Johansson as the Black Widow, the other S.H.I.E.L.D. agent that is likely to appear in a S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off movie is Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson. Gregg's Coulson played a minor role in both Iron Man and Iron Man 2 and he is confirmed to appear
in Thor, as well.
