Jon Favreau Says No More Iron Man Until The Avengers

After the success of both Iron Man and Iron Man 2, director Jon Favreau announced on Los Angeles radio station KROQ that Tony Stark will hang up his metallic boots, at least until Marvel incorporates all of its characters in 2012's The Avengers.
It'll be very interesting to see how the Marvel Universe branches off. All of these movies are going to be taken into account for The Avengers in two years. I'm not sure where The Avengers goes. There is no shooting draft written yet. It's gonna be a big undertaking for Marvel to actually incorporate what happened in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, The First Avenger: Captain America, [and] The Hulk. All that has to inform one unified vision in The Avengers. It's a very exciting prospect. And certainly, Tony Stark is not going to be involved in any of the movies until that one.
Favreau is slated to produce The Avengers, while Joss Whedon is rumored to be Marvel's pick to direct. Whedon, however, is yet to be confirmed, despite Thor's Chris Hemsworth admitting he met with Whedon and Marvel to discuss The Avengers. Even Whedon's brother, Zack Whedon, commented to Comic Book Resources that Joss had "tentatively agreed" to direct the movie.
Favreau, meanwhile, can concentrate on his next upcoming comic book adaptation of Cowboys and Aliens. He'll await what happens in The Avengers, before taking on
Iron Man 3. Favreau has previously stated that he would like the Mandarin as the villain, and commented on KROQ that he may shoot Iron Man 3 in 3-D — and, possibly, Cowboys and Aliens.
I have been testing the [3-D] gear out because we are discussing whether or not we want to do it on the next [Iron Man] film. I know Marvel is looking into it on their movie. But for me personally for Cowboys and Aliens we are looking at what the gear can hold up to because we are shooting out in the desert, which has never been done before with this type of gear. But I love watching movies that are done well in 3-D; I think it is very captivating.
