Jeremy Renner to Join The Avengers (Again)
06.04.10 by Ryan
Jeremy Renner's interest in the role of Hawkeye in The Avengers began last November when he called the role "interesting". Renner met with Marvel, but a decision was postponed until Marvel could find a director, leaving Renner feeling uncertain the role would happen at all. With production on The Avengers to start early next year, Renner as Hawkeye is a reality once again.
According to THR, Renner is in final negotiations to play the bow-and-arrow ace in The Avengers. Joss Whedon is still unofficially-slated to direct, though his brother Zack Whedon has said that Joss "tentatively agreed" to take the job, and Thor's Chris Hemsworth has admitted to meeting with Marvel and Whedon to discuss The Avengers.
Marvel has not confirmed the Renner casting yet, and the report states that Marvel is asking for the cast to take a pay cut in an effort to curb costs. Marvel's financial move may be another reason why the comic book studio has yet to announce Whedon as the director.
Should Renner officially get the Hawkeye role, he will join Hemsworth as Thor, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.
