John Carpenter to Direct Fangland

Director John Carpenter went on a burn-out induced hiatus last decade, offering only the dismal Ghosts of Mars in 2001. Remakes of his previous works filled the intervening years (Assault on Precinct 13 and The Fog), both of which he had minimal involvement with, and zero involvement with Rob Zombie's Halloween and Halloween II remakes. But the horror master has returned to directing with the upcoming The Ward; a movie which follows a girl in a mental institution (Amber Heard) who realizes that she and her fellow patients aren't alone. With The Ward in post-production, Carpenter is already onto his next project, Fangland.
Variety reports that Carpenter will direct from a script from Mark Wheaton, based on the fictional novel by 60 Minutes producer John Marks about a TV news producer (appropriate) who travels to Romania to interview a European arms dealer, who turns out to be a modern-day Dracula. What a scoop!
According to the Wrap, Hilary Swank is set to play the news producer.
No release date has been set for Fangland. The Ward's official Facebook page says the movie is scheduled for release on September 24.
