Paramount Announces Les Grossman Movie
06.10.10 by Ryan
Tom Cruise capped off his performance as Les Grossman (his character from 2008's Tropic Thunder) at the MTV Movie Awards by teasing that a full movie starring himself as Grossman was in the works. He wasn't lying. Paramount Pictures and MTV Films announced that they are developing a movie centered around the foul-mouthed, often ill-tempered movie producer. Cruise will produce the movie, along with Tropic Thunder writer/director Ben Stiller, who admitted he was thrilled about the project.
Les Grossman's life story is an inspiring tale of the classic human struggle to achieve greatness against all odds. He has assured me he plans to quote, "F**king kill the s**t out of this movie and make Citizen f**king Kane look like a piece of crap home movie by the time we are done." I am honored to be working with him.
The announcement claims that Grossman's "cameo" in Tropic Thunder, along with his "groundbreaking and visionary production of the soon-to-be Emmy award-winning 2010 MTV Movie Awards" prompted the, shall we say, biopic. Adam Goodman, Paramount president praised Grossman, his supposed mentor.
Everything I learned in this business, I've learned from Les. I started out as his assistant, and from the first day he threw his desk at me when I got his lunch order wrong, I have loved him like a father. I am forever grateful to Ben and [Tropic Thunder producer] Stuart Cornfeld and their ability to secure his highly-coveted life rights.
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World screenwriter Michael Bacall, is handling the script duties. As for what the script will be about, Grossman himself was happy to comply with the answer.
To quote my great friend Kirk Lazarus, "I don’t read the script, the script reads me."
Reportedly, Cruise is "in talks" to play the legendary Grossman.
