Karate Kid 2 in the Works?

Want to know how sequels are made in Hollywood? Make a movie for $40 million dollars and open that movie to $56 million on its opening weekend. That's the recipe for Sony's The Karate Kid, and Deadline reports the studio is already meeting with writers to pitch ideas for another installment.
Whether Harald Zwart will return is unknown, though the director told ComingSoon that he wasn't against a Karate Kid sequel.
Well, that's always a tempting idea, and I think we all would love to go back and have an experience again. Certainly, I remember just watching Jaden [Smith] and Jackie [Chan] on and off camera and thinking, "They're such a good movie couple." I just got that feeling when I've seen great buddy movies of just off-camera they were just joking and Jaden is a great practical joker. (laughs) They're just a good two characters I think. I definitely think we can take these two people somewhere else, but that's all up to the success. I'm open for anything.
While neither Chan nor Smith were mentioned as returning, it would seem a lock for Sony to want the two stars to return. Considering the remake moved locations from California to China, could the sequel still be set in Okinawa, Japan, like its 1986 predecessor? We see a tea ceremony in Smith's future.
